Sustainability and Community Engagement Forum – HunterNet

On August 31, Lighthouse Road Director Shaun Deverson and Mai-wel CFO Tracey De Friskbom Chaired the inaugural HunterNet Sustainability and Community Engagement Forum.

Keynote speakers were Hunter Tourism’s Chair Will Creedon and Varley Group’s HR Manager Jan Dobbie. It was a fantastic event with Will and Jan provoking some inspirational and aspirational thoughts and discussion across the attendees.

Business Philanthropy is Changing

Key themes from Will and Jan were:

  1. Engage, engage, engage! Be creative and daring and watch your business do well and do good for the community.
  2. It’s so much more than just volunteering and a perceived ‘sunken cost’. More lucrative benefits await those who make the commitment – employer of choice, branding, skilled staff, engaged staff, staff and knowledge etention to name a few.
  3. It’s a self fulfilling and perpetuating circle – a sustainable community will offer a sustainable organisation.
